It is said of the potter marks whose tablet has the form of the plant of a foot. They were especially used between August and Tiberius reigns. Because of that they are a good dating element.

Originally indicated a city block, most often bounded by four streets, on which a house or tenement was built. In later usage it came to designate the apartment building itself.
